Brow & Lash Lifts AKA Lamination, frequently asked questions
Why Yumi & what does it do?
We use Yumi™ (pronounced you-me) only the best! European made, the formula is ammonia free, paraben free, non toxic and hypoallergenic. Formulated by Swiss derma-pigmentologist, this product is completely safe for use around the eyes, and helps to nourish and repair lash & brow damage. There are no other perming products the same, making it the safest and most superior product available to date. All other products have ammonia and other various chemicals that are not safe for use around the eyes.
Lash and brow lifts are a chemical treatment, where the bond of the hair is broken and reset into a desired position. For Lashes this is in a curled upwards direction, and for brows often to straighten curly unruly hair making your daily brow routine a whole lot easier!
Longevity & grow out:
Longevity will vary for everyone. This is dependent on the natural lash or brow cycle of the client.
Lash lift : A short lash expectancy for lifts are a minimum of 5 weeks (although rare), and for most they will get 6-7 weeks on average. For slow cycles some clients can get 11-12 weeks!
Once the lift starts to wear off and you’re in between needing a re do, we recommend wearing mascara to lift and even the discrepancy in lash height. During the end of the lift, some lashes will grow the curl out as the hair grows in length. Because of this the curl that was originally set in one position will move up the length of the lash, hence why the lashes will need re perming to reset the curl lower down the lash hair. Other hairs will look straight, the straighter hairs are new hairs that have grown over the weeks gaining length. This is normal as our lashes grow in 3 different stages, therefore will not all grow at the same rate.
If this is a bother using a curler for a week or two until your follow up lift can also help. The keratin gel we sell in store is an excellent way for increasing the longevity, it helps dramatically to reduce the appearance of grow out.
Brow lift: If you have fast growing brows 3 weeks minimum, the average time is 4-6 weeks the same frequency in which you would get your brows redone. If you have slow growing brows that are naturally not overly curly you may get 6 weeks. Please note the tint longevity (being a different treatment) is completely different to the longevity of the lift. Please see the information under brow design regarding tinting.
There is virtually no notice when a brow lift grows out, much less than a lash lift. As the lift wears off you will find curl coming back to the hairs. It is important to note brows MUST be brushed or slightly styled each morning into place. Depending on the length of hairs and severity of downwards growth, some may need to gel to hold hair in place. Lamination does not "glue" brows into place. *Please note for the first 48 hours before washing, hair will remain glued until it can be rinsed.
Lifts are designed to straighten hair that has wave or curl, and improve unruliness of downward growing hairs. The product breaks the bonds of the hair and sets the hair into a straight formation, just like a chemical hair straightening treatment would. Considering this inevitably hairs will move unless gel is used, especially for downward growing hair, this treatment helps substantially tame and control this type of growth, but not fix the direction the follicles grow in.
The product is designed to make brows easy to maintain daily, therefor maintaining the “upwards direction” may require a little style if hair is thick/stubborn or downwards growing. Using a clear gel easily brushes hair into desired place and they will not drop after the lamination.
Lifts are not suitable for everyone, and certain factors need to be evaluated to decide if this service will meet your requirements.
Why tinting on seperate days for Lash lifts?
Please note the importance of NOT getting a tint done prior to a lift. If the tint is done close to the lift, during treatment the hair cuticle will release colour causing potential problems with the result. Tints should always be done POST lift if you are not tinting on the same day.
Historically tinting is always done during the same visit as the lash lift. We however recommend tinting on a seperate day if you have sensitive eyes, a problem with eye watering or very resistant lashes. Tinting on the same day for some may lessen the result of the lift for varying reasons. We will always make a recommendation for you on the day of the Initial visit. If you lift does not hold well, we will recommend to not tint on the same day and to allow 24 hours for the lashes to cure before introducing tint to the hair.
Events and Weddings:
Never book a lift prior to an event if you have not had one before. Using new products on the eyes/face is not recommended leading to any event such as a wedding. This is due to the inherited risk of allergic reaction with any new beauty treatment. Always make sure you trial lifting a min of 7-8 weeks prior. You need to consider the time it will take for the lift to drop & for any potential reactions to clear if there is a problem. ALSO You need to see if you like the result!
Please speak to your makeup artist prior to deciding on a lift for your wedding/event. If many lashes are worn on the day, the upwards lift of the lash can create difficulty for the makeup artist when applying falsies. If you are not wearing false lashes or only a few, a lift is perfect!
Contacts or allergies for Lash lifter:
If you are a contact wearer we recommend removing them prior, to ensure product does not entered the eye during lash lifts becoming trapped under the lens.
If you suffer from allergies such as hay-fever, always take an antihistamine prior to lash treatment to lessen the risk of watery eyes. If you naturally have watery eyes and find it difficult for your eyes to be touched, unfortunately this service may not be suitable. Lashes must remain dry during the treatment and tears will wet the lashes.
Damaged lashes:
Damaged lashes is something we deal with frequently, as unfortunately there are many products on the market that damage lashes, and many technicians who are not properly trained. We often get enquires asking if we can fix someones bad lift, or what their options are.
If your lashes have been damaged from a lift or they have been poorly lifted, resulting in upturned bottom lashes, or cris-crossed lashes we can help! There is hope :)
Poorly done lifts or damaged lashes are irritating to the eyes, and look unsightly so we understand wanting it fixed!
Yumi™ is designed to help repair the keratin in the lashes. If the lashes are badly damaged or you have only recently had a poorly executed lift we can help to relax the lash down. Once you have gone through your lash cycle (10-12 weeks) we can re do the lift for you properly :)
Relaxing involves relatively the same process, but is modified to allow us to loosen & relax the damage or over curl. During the process we use a keratin building agent to repair the lash.
After lash relaxation we always recommend to use an additional, specifically formulated conditioner until your next visit (Stocked in store). There is no reason you should have to wait weeks with irritating unsightly lashes, we can help to repair them now ! Depending on how we execute your repair the pricing will vary, we will consult and quote prior to treatment.
